Puttu Kadala recipe — authentic Kerala Indian dish from Masala Spin

Ingredients

  • Rice flour
  • Grated coconut
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Black chickpeas
  • Onion
  • Ginger-garlic-green chili paste
  • Curry leaves
  • Coconut oil
  • Roasted coconut masala

Instructions

  1. 1For Puttu: Mix rice flour with salt and water to moisten.
  2. 2Layer moist flour and grated coconut in a puttu maker.
  3. 3Steam for 8-10 minutes until cooked.
  4. 4For Kadala: Soak chickpeas overnight and cook until tender.
  5. 5Sauté onion, ginger-garlic-chili paste, and curry leaves in coconut oil.
  6. 6Add roasted coconut masala and cook well.
  7. 7Add cooked chickpeas and water; simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  8. 8Season with salt and serve hot with puttu.
