Khichdi recipe — authentic Maharashtra Indian dish from Masala Spin

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Basmati or Sona Masuri rice
  • 1/4 cup yellow moong dal
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 green chilli, slit
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • 2.5 cups water

Instructions

  1. 1Wash rice and dal together. Soak for 15 minutes, then drain.
  2. 2Heat ghee in a pressure cooker, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and green chilli.
  3. 3Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent. Add turmeric powder.
  4. 4Add the soaked rice and dal, sauté for a minute. Add water and salt.
  5. 5Close the cooker and cook for 2-3 whistles. Let pressure release naturally.
  6. 6Serve hot, optionally with a drizzle of ghee.
