Jowar Upma recipe — authentic Indian dish from Masala Spin

Ingredients

  • 1 cup jowar (sorghum) rava
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, diced small
  • 1/4 cup peas
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 1 green chilli, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Lemon juice

Instructions

  1. 1Dry-roast jowar rava in a pan for 3–4 minutes until fragrant. Set aside.
  2. 2In the same pan, temper mustard seeds, curry leaves, and green chilli.
  3. 3Add onion with a splash of water; cook until translucent.
  4. 4Add carrot and peas; sauté for 2 minutes.
  5. 5Pour in 2.5 cups hot water, add salt, bring to boil.
  6. 6Stir in the roasted jowar rava, cover and cook on low for 5 minutes.
  7. 7Fluff with a fork, finish with lemon juice, serve hot.
