Bajra Khichdi recipe — authentic Indian dish from Masala Spin

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup pearl millet (bajra), soaked overnight
  • 1/4 cup split moong dal
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 small tomato, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 green chilli, slit
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander to garnish

Instructions

  1. 1Rinse soaked bajra and moong dal thoroughly.
  2. 2In a pressure cooker, dry-roast cumin seeds until fragrant.
  3. 3Add onion, green chilli, and tomato with a splash of water; cook till soft.
  4. 4Add bajra, dal, turmeric, salt, and 3 cups water.
  5. 5Pressure cook for 4 whistles on medium flame.
  6. 6Open once steam releases, mash lightly, garnish with coriander.
