Amti recipe — authentic Maharashtra Indian dish from Masala Spin

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Toor dal
  • 1 tbsp goda masala
  • 1/2 tbsp tamarind pulp
  • 1 tbsp jaggery, grated
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • Pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander for garnish

Instructions

  1. 1Pressure cook toor dal until soft. Mash well.
  2. 2Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and asafoetida.
  3. 3Add the mashed dal to the tempering. Add goda masala, tamarind pulp, jaggery, and salt.
  4. 4Add 2-3 cups of water to adjust consistency, bring to a boil.
  5. 5Simmer for 10-15 minutes for flavors to meld.
  6. 6Garnish generously with fresh coriander. Serve hot with rice.
